Hoevelaken
ahh Hoevelaken. Another little Dutch town.
The trip to Hoevelaken wasnt the most exciting. I think the most exciting part about it was that we got to stop off in Utrecht on the way and have a look at my flat! From what ive seen utrecht is a pretty nice town, and from what ive seen of my flat it looks really ace and i cant wait to move in.
But back to Hoevelaken. I did not spend a whole lot of time in Hoevelaken itself so i cant really comment on it. Uncle Piet Hein and Mieke have a really nice house, it really reminded me of a house that some Dutch friends have in Hanmer Springs. I had some really yummy pea soup that Uncle Piet Hein made. Hes got good cooking skills. Mieke came home for dinner and then shot out for a meeting again. It was so great meeting her. She is my mums identical twin sister. And boy are they identical, not only in looks but also in habits. She made me laugh alot because all the facial expressions she does are so like my mother...and when she has food on her face without realising. Typical! But i did notice that they are different 'seasons'. Mieke wears alot of black and blue and pink and pretty colours...my mother is more autumn colours like browns, and burnt orange and limegreens.
I had a wee nap after dinner because i was feeling quite tired. At about 9pm we went into a town called Amersfort. Its such a pretty wee town..especially at night. Its surrounded by canals and walls and stuff like that. We went to this irish pub where i met some nice christian lads who go to Mieke and Piet Heins church. They were really good looking..the only turn off is that they all smoked. It seems that everyone smokes in Holland! Its such a disgusting habit, dont they care that with every puff they are killing themselves??obviously not. Anyway, it was fun chatting to them and i learnt that one of them studies in Utrecht and is a good friend of Rutger, who is Mieke and Piet Heins son who i was going to meet the next day.
On Friday Piet Hein and I went on a tiki tour around Hoevelaken and the surrounding countryside. I saw many windmills and castles and farm houses and stuff. It was really pretty. We went to visit Piet Hein's boat at the harbour too, he really likes his boat. We had a cheese toastie in the harbour restaraunt too. We also went to see an old mill which was pretty cool to learn how they managed to make more land by draining all the sea water. Rutger came home about 5.30pm in a taxi from his boarding school. Rutger is deaf and autistic so its very interesting having to communicate with someone using sign language and other actions. He looks alot like marcel too, and hes really into film making. He showed me alot of films that he has made. Theyre pretty good. In the evening we went to Utrecht so i could move into my room. It was so exciting! Their other son Edo came to have a look as well so it was cool meeting him. They didnt stay long, and i was left on my own to unpack and settle into a life in Utrecht.
